Fractal Edge at the SIA Show

We were exhibitors at the New York Hilton this week at the annual Securities Industry Association show.  This is THE one show for financial technology.  Fractal Edge got quite a bit of play in the Active Data Visualization discussion panel which included NYU’s Ken Perlin as moderator.

The photo of our booth below shows Fractal Edge CEO, Richard Laughton.  And while the photo I took does not necessarily show a deluge of foot traffic, we were quite busy the entire show.

Tagging in the process of blogging

The process and service of tagging has come up when I first attended the business blogging conference in May and more recently at Pub Sub Concepts meeting.  Del.icio.us is the online web entity often associated with tagging.  Del.icio.us is a "shared memory" site, where Internet bookmarks are shared with one another.

If a user adds a site of interest or just provide relevant link to their Del.icio.us list, they are in effect "tagging" it, making those sites easier to find for users with similar interests.

Corporate Blogging, Backbone Media Survey

Blogs were largely ignored by the corporate world when they first appeared on the cyber-scene.  But slowly, businesses began to see their utility (or feel their sting!) and realized that blogs posed not only threats but also great opportunities.  One of the largest corporate blog surveys to date is from Backbone Media.

Visualizing the Blogosphere?

I ventured downtown to Fulton St. for a meeting at PubSub.com HQ and a discussion with Bob Wyman, CTO and Founder.  Since I am the General Manager, US for Fractal Edge, a leading firm in the Active Data Visualization space (per Forrester Research), I met with Bob regarding how we could represent these blogosphere results in one of our fractal maps, just as we represent Google Search results.  We agreed there was promise, and that once our organizations can spend the resources outside our core focus, we might re-visit this potential collaboration in early 2006.
